Technet Windows 7 Anytime Upgrades!
I recently received a new laptop with Windows 7 Professional x64 preloaded. However, the inner geek in me decided that nothing less then Windows 7 x64 Ultimate would suffice. I decided that I would get the laptop completely setup, install whatever updates were available, and eventually run the Windows Anytime Upgrade tool.
For those that do not know, Microsoft offers anytime upgrades of all Windows 7 editions to the next level up…should you pay for the upgrade and get the proper key. Technet members naturally are able to get most editions of new operating systems to use and the keys that go along with them.
I proceeded to the Microsoft Technet site to retrieve my product key for Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Edition. Once retrieved I simply launched the Windows Anytime Upgrade tool and pasted my new key into the request dialog. Voila, the key was recognized and the upgrade process automatically began. The laptop was rebooted, automatically, twice during the process and VOILA…Windows 7 x64 Ultimate edition was now installed and working.
I don’t have any screenshots of the experience but I figured it would be something worth sharing. Please let all of us know, via comments, what, if any, experiences you have had with Anytime Upgrades.
