The Motorola DROID after 48 Hours!
I am not going to try and review this product again as I feel that the reviews out in the world have already given it the attention that it deserves. The purpose of this post is to simply convey my thoughts on the device and my experience with it in the past 48 hours. If one word could sum up this entire post, it would have to be BRILLIANT!
The DROID is an exceptional device in that it does what it should do…it is a Android 2.0 Handset that makes use of the best hardware available today. There is no point comparing it to the iPhone and or the other Android devices in the marketplace since it brings with it an individual style and design. It is also not a device for the casual smartphone user, it is an advanced handset and deserves the attention of the geek buried deep within.
Without further adieu I will try and list my likes and dislikes below…starting with the dislikes first so that the negatives can give way to the positive aspects of this device, of which there are MANY.
Dislikes/Negatives/Cons:
- Keyboard
- CDMA (Can not be used Worldwide on GSM networks)
- Camera for Still Photography (Am certain its a firmware bug)
Likes/Positives/Pros:
- Android 2.0
- Screen
- Virtual Keyboard vastly superior then other smartphones.
- Microsoft Exchange Integration
- Google Integration
- Full, yes FULL, use of Google Voice
- Navigation - turn by turn – FREE
- Voice Quality
- Speed
- Open Platform
At this point it is easy to ascertain that the benefits outweigh the negative aspects of this device. Motorola, with Google’s assistance, seems to have put a lot of effort into the device making it a rich and effortlessly usable device. Google too should get some of the credit for its development and capabilities of Android 2.0 which seems to be a robust, open, and friendly smartphone operating system.
The DROID will probably become one of my secondary smartphone’s in the days ahead but my Blackberry will always be my primary device. I am the type that requires a keyboard for typing on a mobile device and until I can get up to speed on the DROID, I will have to stick to my trusty Blackberry 8900 or Bold 9700.
The above is a 48 hour perspective which I am sure will change as time goes on and my knowledge of Android increases. The hardware is very high quality and a pleasure to have.
Please share your experiences and or thoughts via the commenting system…and please check back regularly for updated DROID posts..I am sure I will have a lot to say…that’s why I have a BLOG right?
