Biometric Devices on Windows 7 RTM x64
I am the proud owner of a Lenovo T Series laptop with a finger print reader installed. Lenovo provides a pretty good software that allows you to register your fingerprints and use them to log into Windows upon boot up. However, it is an extra piece of software that needs to be installed and sometimes has/had issues on Windows 7 x64. Windows 7 is now final and available to Technet/MSDN members. Naturally I downloaded it today and started to do a complete re-install of the operating system and all of my other software (READ: CLEAN INSTALL). The Biometrics (finger printer reader) device was detected and the drivers/software that Microsoft now provides were installed automatically. I was unable to make them work with the release candidate but that was probably due to AuthenTec, Inc. not having the driver ready…well it is ready now and installed.
Here are the steps to get it working and screen shots below:
- Go to Control Panel and Biometric Devices
- Click on Manage your fingerprint data
- You are now asked to enter your Windows Password
- In my case TrueSuite 2.0 by Authentec comes up and allows me to register my fingers.
- Swipe your finger three times and when you get completed confirmation you are done.
- Now to test log off of your system.
- The log on screen should show you a photo of a Fingerprint..swipe once with your registered finger and you are logged in.
Your experience may vary based on the manufacturer of your fingerprint reader, but it should be similar for the most part. Screen shots below:

Im using R-500 Lenovo machine with the same biometric device. I downloaded driver from Authentec site specially for Windows 7, and it work well except that it using about 60-70% cpu when no other app. running. So i was disabled the device and kill the driver process and CPU usage went down.
for me finger print reader worked out of box with x64 RTM version
AUTHENTEC Inc. AES2810
On my T400 with x64 RC1 build 7100 and the driver downloaded from Authentec the reader works very well, and just as well with XP x86. No issues with CPU usage. Rarely, just like in XP, the reader seems to not recognize the action of a finger swipe.
Windows 7 ultimate 64bit final 22nd of october 09
not working on IBM Lenovo N200.
It fails when you enter a password
The beta 7 worked ok for me?
