Adding BING! Search to your Site.
Bing! is the latest entrant into the search game and it is quite good to boot. Therefore, I figured I would add it to my blog…as you can see to the top right.
Bing offers you two available options to add search to your site…basic and advanced. Basic allows you to simply put a search box on your site that will open a new window and show Bing search results. Advanced allows you to put a search box on your site that is a bit more customizable and opens in the form of a in-built/pop-out window showing search results from your site and a tab that allows the user to view web results. Advanced is probably going to be the option you want, considering that you want your visitors to be able to search your content. I used the Advanced function and that is what I will be describing in minimal detail below…the site is pretty self explanatory. Read on for a detailed setup….
Go to the url : http://www.bing.com/siteowner/
- Select basic or advanced – in our case advanced.
- Enter your site name and the url’s that are assosciated with it.
- I ignored the Macro Option..they will tell you what it is but I don’t think I will be needing it for now.
- Hit Next, pick some simple customization options. (ie. language, color, and size.)
- You must also select the size for the pop-out window.
- Hit Preview to see what it will look like, then hit DONE.
- The HTML code appears and can be added as a text widget to wordpress…like I have done here.
Yep, I Bing’d it. Enjoy!
