What solution I chose for Windows 7 x64 on a Mac!
In day to day operations I actually have a Mac Pro which runs with a 2.66ghz processor and about 8gb of ram. This is my primary machine which has been bootcamped and runs Windows 7 X64 – 100% of the time. It is truly an amazing experience and works perfectly without the smallest of hic-cups. When I come home I usually work on a MAC, only because I am too lazy to actually boot camp my machine at home…. I will eventually get to it… Therefore I use virtualization software to run Windows on my mac. I have tested every software, known to me, and come up with fascinating results…all of which can be found on this site. The conclusion:
- Dump Sun’s Virtual Box.
- Use VMware Fusion and Parallels
Why use two products that do one thing? Simply put they both have a unique offering. You may like to select one and stick with it..but I keep both on here with various virtual machines that run everything from Ubuntu to Windows 2008 Server in 64bit Mode. The one product that I refuse to use at this point is Sun’s Virtual Box….yes it is a free product but there are lots of addtional steps that one needs to take to get a machine up and running properly.
VMware and Parallels both were the clear winners because they worked right out of the box and my VM’s were up and running in a very short amount of time.
Bootcamp is by far the winner because it is not virtualization at all….so it really should not be compared with VM products.
