I Bing’d it! Why we need another SEARCH engine?
If you are reading this post then you are amongst a very small community. I started this blog about 2 months ago and get about 100 unique hits per day…regularly and sometimes spikes as high as 300. Naturally this has nothing to do with Bing…but the reason it is relevant is that my analytics tool (Woopra) has been showing me that there are quite a few hits coming via BING. Monday, June 1st I saw 36 hits that came to 2s2d.net via BING….encouraging. People are actually using the new search engine… However, do we really need another one? Will it make an impact? The answer is quite simple…YES. Read on…
Jason Calacanis from Mahalo has stated numerous times in the past that every 1 (one) percent of the sharing market that belongs to any engine is worth $1 Billion….yep 1%=$1Billion. If Microsoft even gets 10% of the market share with Bing then they are in essence monetizing $10 billion…..the only question that remains is over what term is the value realized.
That being said….why would you use Bing instead of Google? My response: We often search for products on line and try to find reviews, images, and eventually the best price. BING has integrated the Microsoft Cash Back scheme into its search engine. Basically you go to BING enter in a product and the first links that appear are for partners that participate in the MS Cashback Scheme. EXCELLENT way to get people to use a search engine and eventually save money while using it.
Microsoft has finally started to wake up and realize that there are users out there that want FRESH and new product. First BING, then the Zune HD, and now all of the new XBOX 360 stuff make it seem like someone in Redmond is listening and knows what is going on. CONGRATS MSFT!!!!!

Quick Update: It would seem that Microsoft is going all out with Bing. They have just added Bing 411 – a telephone service for directions, weather, etc….. via LifeHacker
