Installing Evernote on a Unlocked Blackberry 8900!
Evernote is one of my favorite apps, as you can see in the post below this one. I heard about its release for the Blackberry Bold, 8900 (Curve 2), and the Storm yesterday evening and immediately tried to get it from Blackberry App World. However, much to my dismay, the application was not available for my Blackberry 8900. I use the 8900 unlocked on the AT&T network, and even though my specifications where up to par the application was not available to me for download.
Evernote is a free application for the blackberry and cannot be directly installed from the Evernote website, it must be downloaded from App World.
I am fortunate enough to have a Blackberry Bold as well…which is mainly unused and kept in my bag for backup purposes. Here are the steps I took to get Evernote on to my 8900:
- Using Desktop Manager 4.7 I used the Device Switch Wizard and switched to the Bold.
- Once the switch was completed, I went to App World on my Bold (AT&T Locked) and downloaded/installed Evernote. A breeze.
- I confirmed that Evernote was operational and ran the Device Switch Wizard again so I could go back to using the 8900. I made sure to confirm that the Evernote application was in the list of 3rd party Apps that would be transferred.
- Voila – Evernote was now on my 8900. I launched it at once and it prompted me to do an update, after which it rebooted the 8900. It was still there and it works like a champ.
The Evernote experience on the iPhone and, of course, mac/pc is much better then the Blackberry but I have no doubt in my mind that it will improve over time. For now, however, the application and all of my notes are available to me. I am a happy camper.
